Following the completion of the National Citizen Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj, clashes erupted involving law enforcement and activists of the Awami League and its banned student wing, Chhatra League.
To bring the situation under control, the local administration imposed Section 144, banning public gatherings in the affected areas.
As of 4:00pm on Wednesday, sporadic chases and counter-chases were ongoing between the groups.
Earlier, members of Chhatra League launched an attack on the NCP motorcade after vandalising the vehicles of police and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), as well as storming the rally stage.
The assault took place around 2:45 PM. Police responded by firing tear gas to disperse the attackers.
